§ 5.18.010. Definitions.

  • As used in this chapter, unless the context otherwise requires, the following terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them respectively:

    A.

    "Massage" means the manipulation of body tissues for remedial or hygienic purposes (as by rubbing, stroking, kneading, or tapping) with the hand or an instrument, excluding treatments by a licensed physical therapist or chiropractic doctor or a member of the American Massage Therapy Association.

    B.

    "Massage establishment" means premises used for the business of performing massages and all furnishings, equipment, instruments, and other facilities maintained therein incidental to such use.

    C.

    "Masseur" or "masseuse" means any person, whether the proprietor or another person, administering a massage to any customer of a massage establishment.

    D.

    "Proprietor" means the person having general control and management over the conduct of business at a massage establishment, whether or not such person is the legal owner of the premises or the business.
